Stan
Simkins - Tenor
Stan discovered his vocal talent as a teenager singing street
corner “doo wop” in his hometown of Philadephia in a rock and
roll group called “Mike and the Angels”.
Among many venues, he has notably sung
at the Rampart Casino in Las Vegas (as opening act for The Comets
- formerly Bill Haley & The Comets - who performed Shake Rattle
& Roll, and Rock Around the Clock in the 50's.); the nationally
renowned Proctors Theatre in Schenectady ; the Fort William
Henry Resort in Lake George , NY , The Egg in Albany , NY, and
on cruise lines as an amateur before going professional.
Stan's versatility takes him one moment
from a variety of Broadway show tunes to authentically-performed
‘50s rock and roll songs, then onto some of the most challenging
operatic arias… all in one show, Broadway Meets the Met
in the 50s and 60s .
Stan began singing (Bach B Minor) in
Temple University 's Men's Choir at the Academy of Music with
the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1963 conducted by Eugene Ormandy.
He performed (singing and dancing) in South Pacific while Temple
University . He performed "50's" rock-and-roll in
a vocal group while in his teens in Philadelphia at teen dance
"halls" (and even at his high school graduation)!
Stan began performing at numerous local
venues (e.g. Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia, Pruyn House in
Colonie, the College of St. Rose in Albany, Russell Sage College
in Troy, East Greenbush Library, Schenectady County Library,
Albany Jewish Community Center, TV Channel 16 [SACC-TV] in Schenectady
before going professional.
Stan's coaches include accomplished
international opera singers, and cruise line vocal entertainers.
His repertoire spans operatic pieces (Italian, Russian, French,
and English), a wide variety of Broadway show tunes and “authentic
oldies” rock & roll.
